Programme
Arrow Valley Solar is a proposed new solar farm that would generate 500MW of clean electricity for the National Grid. Because of its size, it is treated as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP). This means that instead of being decided through a local planning application, our application for a Development Consent Order (DCO) will be examined at a national level by the Planning Inspectorate before the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) makes the final decision, due to its national significance.
Although the application will be determined through the national NSIP process, local feedback is helping to shape the project. The views we hear during this consultation will help us to refine the design and ensure Arrow Valley Solar is developed sensitively and responsibly.
Spring 2026
We submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Scoping Report to the Planning Inspectorate who then issued a Scoping Opinion, confirming the topics, information and level of detail our Environmental Impact Assessment will require.
Spring / Summer 2026
We developed our design and produced our Interim Environmental Report, detailing the investigative survey work and studies undertaken so far to understand the effects of Arrow Valley Solar.
Autumn 2026
We have launched our public consultation on Arrow Valley Solar, inviting residents, local representatives and other interested parties to share their views as we continue to develop and refine our proposals.
Winter 2026
We will carefully consider feedback and the outcomes of ongoing environmental and technical surveys to help shape the final design. Once all feedback has been reviewed and any required changes incorporated, we will finalise our proposals.
Spring 2027
We will submit our application for development consent to the Planning Inspectorate for consideration.
Autumn / Winter 2027
The Planning Inspectorate will examine and assess the application in public. During this period, stakeholders and members of the public can attend public hearings and take part in the examination process.
How you can get involved in the DCO process
Once the DCO application has been accepted for Examination, the application will be interrogated by the Planning Inspectorate over six months through a series of hearings and written deadlines. Anyone can register to participate in the Examination and have the opportunity to speak at hearings and submit comments directly to the Planning Inspectorate at each deadline in the Examination timetable.

Spring 2028
The Planning Inspectorate will prepare a report for the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, including a recommendation on whether the application should be approved or not.
Summer 2028
The Secretary of State will make the final decision on the application.
2029-2031
If approved, we expect construction to take place between 2029 and 2031.
2031
The Scheme is expected to be fully operational.
